How Board Engine uses AI

Draft of October 23, 2026

Board Engine works without AI. A few optional features use it to save you typing. This page covers which ones, what they send, and what stays in your hands.

Which features

  • Storyboard interpreter (in the board import wizard). Reads a storyboard page and suggests the board fields: shot size, angle, movement, lens and so on, each with a confidence level.
  • Script import (rolling out during the alpha). Reads a script you upload to help you start a project's board list.

Only people who can edit a project can run them, and only when they choose to.

What gets sent, and to whom

When you run one of these features, the content it needs is sent to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude models, through their API, for that request only:

  • the interpreter sends each storyboard page image you selected, one page per request;
  • script import sends the script text you uploaded.

We don't send your other projects, your comments, your studio's members, or anything else. Nothing goes to Anthropic unless you start the feature.

What happens to it there

Anthropic processes the request and sends the suggestions back. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, content sent through their API isn't used to train their models by default. They may keep it for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring. Their own terms and privacy policy govern that part.

You stay in charge

  • Suggestions are drafts. You review them before anything is saved to your boards.
  • AI can misread a frame or a scene. Check the results, especially anything marked low-confidence.
  • We don't use your storyboards, scripts or client material to train AI models, ours or anyone else's.

Questions

If your client's contract restricts AI processing, don't run these features on that project. Everything else in Board Engine works without them. Questions go to hello@boardengine.app. See also the privacy notes.
